Microsoft launched a new 1TB Xbox Series S on September 1, coinciding with the release of Starfield, the latest major exclusive game on Xbox consoles. The new carbon black Xbox Series S costs $350, which is $50 more than the original white and black model. In exchange for the higher price, buyers get twice as much storage space.
"We know you've wanted more storage with Xbox Series S," Xbox chief executive Phil Spencer said during the company's summer gaming showcase. The original Xbox Series S launched with 512GB of storage that amounted to 364GB of usable space after necessary updates and software installs. Xbox Series S is an all-digital console with no disc drive, so storage space is essential.
Xbox Series X and Series S have been the fastest-selling generation of Xbox consoles to date, thanks in part to the affordable price of the Series S. If you're hoping to get your hands on the new 1TB Xbox Series S, we've got you covered with full details on how to buy one now.

Is the 1TB Xbox Series S different from the original Xbox Series S?
The new Xbox Series S 1TB edition features double the storage space of the original Xbox Series S released in 2020. The new model also sports a carbon black color scheme, which gives it a more standard design aesthetic than the regular model, which has a white case and large black vent.
Besides the 1TB drive and the console's black color, the new Xbox Series S will feature the exact same specs as the original model, which was built to be less powerful than the $500 Xbox Series X, but more affordable. The console is designed to play most new games at 1080p or 1440p, but it can stream media in 4K resolution. Xbox Series S shares its game library with Series X, supports Xbox Game Pass, and is backwards compatible with older titles. Unlike the Series X, however, the Series S does not include a disc drive.

Can you upgrade the storage space on Xbox Series S consoles?
Expansion cards for the Xbox Series S do exist, but they're relatively expensive and not widely available. Xbox Series X/S use a proprietary expansion card slot, and the official cards are made by Seagate. Seagate has produced Xbox storage expansion cards in three sizes: 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB.
The 1TB model recently received a price cut; Amazon sells it now for $150, which is the best price we've seen so far, and the best value for the amount of space you'll get. Amazon also sells the 512GB card for $120 and the 2TB card for $280.
Backwards compatible Xbox One games can be installed to a regular USB drive, which are available for much cheaper than the expansion cards. However, newly released games made for Xbox Series X/S cannot be installed on a USB drive.
